Tiling & Slating

With skilled management staff and specialist roofing operatives, all of whom are experts in the supply and installation natural, machine made and handmade materials for slating and tiling, our clients are assured of high quality delivery. Our award winning services span large commercial projects and smaller, bespoke private developments. And, whilst we do not offer a domestic roof repair service, we have developed a reputation as the ‘go to’ contractor for domestic re-roofing projects. Regardless of the project, we deal with everything proficiently, professionally and reliably.

Slate

Slate is as old as the planet we live on and it has been quarried and split to provide roof coverings for hundreds of years. British slate, predominantly from North Wales and Cumbria, has a reputation for being the best in the world. It is not uncommon to find a British slate roof still in perfect condition up to 200-years after it was laid and there is a thriving market in reclaimed slate.

Unfortunately, there is no longer sufficient indigenous slate quarried to meet demand. Most natural roofing slate used in the UK is now imported, principally from Spain but increasingly from China, Brazil and North America. Alternatively, there is a wide selection of composite and slate look-alike products, which have the aesthetic appeal of natural slate. Often (but not always,) cheaper than the natural product, composite slates tend to be faster to fix and require less specialist skill to lay – yet they can still replicate the clean lines and natural beauty of a ‘real’ slate roof.

When fixed by one of our teams of skilled slaters, a composite or natural slate roof will enhance the appeal and value of a property and give a lifetime of maintenance free beauty. Close relationships with a wide range of suppliers, including Burlington, Cupa, Siga and Welsh Slate ensures that we are able to fill our clients’ every requirement.

Tiling

Roof tiles were brought to Britain by the Romans, so they have been around for more than 2,000 years – although the Romans would hardly recognise today’s refined versions of their clay tiles.  The concrete interlocking roof tile – a descendant of the Roman tile developed to cater for demand in the post war housing boom – is easily the most widely used roofing material in the UK. Easy to produce, consistent in quality and simple to lay, the concrete roofing tile is available in patterns and colours to blend with indigenous materials. It can be seen on modern developments the length and breadth of Britain; indeed, we have laid more than 55 million in the North East since 1986.

We have direct accounts with all the major suppliers of concrete tiles, which allows us to provide keen and competitive rates for supplying and fixing this most cost- effective of all roof coverings. With their more traditional appearance, clay tiles are enjoying a renaissance and new patterns and colours that enhance the natural beauty of the clay are currently being introduced on a regular basis. Because of our close relationship with suppliers including Sandtoft, Russell, Marley and Redland, we are able to help our customers take full advantage of this ever-widening choice at extremely competitive prices.
